Got Milk Jam

Urban Life - 15 Mar 2007

Sometimes, you just need something sweet in your life. At times like these, reach for a jar of milk jam.

This speciality from the Normandy region in France is made with the same milk that goes into the area's famous cheeses. The milk is cooked with sugar until it thickens and it has a heavenly toffee aroma and taste.

It is not quite as sweet as dulce de leche, the South American equivalent, and makes a great topping for toast or pancakes. I recently found another way to enjoy it – just dip thin slices of tart Granny Smith apples into the milk jam. But don't fool yourself into believing that the apples make this decadent snack a healthy one.
